At the Bronx Zoo in New York, there are 58,000 Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, each of which need to be named.
That’s where you come in.
For Valentine’s Day, you can Name A Roach in honor of your loved one for only $10! Your tax-deductible donation comes with an e-card you can send. But that’s not all! How about some chocolate roaches?
For $25, you can name a roach AND receive one hand-painted, artisanal dark chocolate roach. Order your Cocoa-Roach before February 6 and get free shipping (you can have the chocolate sent to yourself or directly to the gift recipient). For $35, you can name two roaches and receive two cocoa-roaches (order here). Both cocoa-roach orders come with a physical certificate you can give your loved one (the order form has an area for a personal message to your recipient).
The Cocoa-Roach was created by chocolatier and pastry chef Sabrina Berkowitz, of The Chocolate Box NYC, for the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo. For more details on these creepy candies and to see a video on how these unique chocolates are made, visit www.bronxzoo.com/roach (for the video, click the link on the right under the photo of the chocolate that says “Learn more about our chocolates.”
I know, I know, it seems like a bizarre thing to give for Valentine’s Day, but at least it’s original – how many people do you know get a roach named for them? Plus, we all know roaches are eternal, just like the love you and your partner share, right? Plus, just look at the video below of the hissing roaches getting in on the Valentine’s Day action. C’mon, they’re SO cute!!!!!!
