The Scorpions’ Rerecorded Classic Songs On ‘Comeblack’ Sound Awesome

I noticed that the Featured MP3 Song Of The Day over at Amazon today is Rock You Like A Hurricane by The Scorpions for only $.99. That’s cool, I thought, since you know I love the heavy metal and dig that a band like The Scorpions would be spotlighted on a huge site.
But then I noticed that next to the title in parenthesis the song was the “2011 Version” off their new album Comeblack. So I check it out and it turns out that half the album is actually rerecordings of their classic songs like “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” “Still Loving You,” No One Like You,” and “Blackout,” and, man, do these new versions sound awesome!
Scorpions frontman Klaus Meine has always been one of the greatest singers in heavy metal, and judging by the sound on these new versions of seven tunes, it would seem that after 40 years with the German heavy metal band, his vocals are still amazing.
Now, I’ll admit, I typically don’t go for it when a band rerecords their songs. I’m usually too attached to the original version and can’t wrap my head around why the song has to be changed. Surprisingly, when it comes to Comeblack, I really like the new versions, too.
The other half of the album consists of The Scorpions doing covers, with songs like The Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night” and The Beatles’ “Across The Universe.”
The MP3 Download version of Comeblack is only $10.99, while the CD costs even less at $9.00 (both a good deal for 13 songs). I highly recommend checking out the album.
