For the past four years Finnish metal band lymystö frontman Timo Vuorensola has been struggling to make his directorial debut Iron Sky a reality. Following the online debut of a teaser trailer in 2008 Vuorensola was able to secure the necessary $8.5 million in funding, a chunk of which was provided by fans who wanted to see the neophyte filmmaker’s dream come to fruition.
Now Iron Sky is completed and preparing for its world premiere next week in Berlin and a trailer for the finished feature has been released. You can check it out here below.
Filmed in Germany and Australia, the uber-absurd Iron Sky tells the story of a plot by a resurrected Third Reich in 2018 to launch a attack on Earth from their base on the dark side of the moon. The international cast includes Julia Dietze, Christopher Kirby, Götz Otto, Peta Sergeant, and New Zealand stand-up comic Stephanie Paul. But most importantly is the presence of German acting legend Udo Kier, who only played vampires more than he has Nazis. If he was ever cast as a Nazi vampire the universe would implode from the awesomeness. Clearly none of this shit is being played straight but Iron Sky looks to be a hella-cool time at the movies if director Vuorensola has pulled it off.
Iron Sky will premiere on February 11th during the Berlin International Film Festival’s Panarama program and will be released theatrically in Germany and Finland in April. The film doesn’t have a U.S. distributor or release date as of yet.
