It’s been assumed by many that he would rise up to become quite the superstar. but whether through his own preference or lack of exposure, he’s remained somewhat in the shadows. The actor has appeared in some more mainstream titles like Letters to Juliet, Blindness, and Best Picture nominee Babel, but now it appears he could be stepping out into that Hollywood spotlight, as so many have expected him to eventually do.
It’s being reported that Garcia Bernal will play none other than Zorro for 20th Century Fox in a new take on the classic mythology, titled Zorro Reborn. But instead of embracing the western themes and settings we’ve always associated Zorro with, this time around the story will be futuristic, with Zorro being a masked vigilante who’s out for revenge.
Not much else is known about the project apart from the fact that Glenn Gers wrote the script with Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy (Harker), and that a director is currently being sought out.
The last time we saw Zorro on the Big Screen was back in 2005 when Antonio Banderas played him in The Legend of Zorro.
