Katie Cassidy Cast As Female Lead In CW’s ‘Arrow’
  |

Katie Cassidy has been announced as the lead female role in CW’s Green Arrow pilot, Arrow, as none other than Dinah Lance. Perfect….

In case you can’t tell, I’m elated with this news. Cassidy has been named as Dinah Lance. To those unaware, Dinah Lance is also known to those of comic book fans as Black Canary, the main love interest and super heroine bad-ass with super sonic voice. Now, will Black Canary actually show up in the show? I certainly hope so, but it’s just as likely that they will keep her as one of the city’s attorneys. Either way, I think Cassidy is a fantastic choice.

Now, you may think, “Hunter, why do you think that Katie Cassidy of TV’s Gossip Girl would be a good fit as Black Canary?” And I might answer that I don’t know that I’ve ever seen that show, but I did see her in Harper’s Island (she was probably the only good thing about that show) and Taken with Liam Neeson (which, I mean, come on, dude). And based on those, and scattered others, I think she’d do an incredible job. She’s a good actress that can totally kick some ass, so hopefully we’ll get to see her do so. Either way, she’s a better choice than either Full House‘s Lori Loughlin or Rachel Skarsten, but let’s not talk about TV’s Birds of Prey right now, okay?

Instead let’s focus on Arrow. As I said previously, Arrow seems like it’s getting fast tracked into production as we haven’t seen real casting information for any other series on DC Entertainment’s pilot list. And judging off of some rumors and casting of certain characters like Dinah Lance, I’m looking forward to seeing what they have to offer. Hopefully the production, script, and acting will be great, because I want to love this show. And so far, they’ve yet to announce anything that’s disappointing. No matter what though, having a real version of Black Canary as a main character on my TV every week will be enough to get me to watch the show.

As previously announced, Arrow is being written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg. and Mark Guggenheim, while the pilot will be directed by David Nutter.
