Jamie Benning To Journey ‘Inside Jaws’ For Next ‘Filmumentary’
space
BAADASSSSS!   |

Over the past year Jamie Benning has impressed us film geeks with his own specialized brand of fan-made documentaries he calls “filmumentaries,” which are assembled from behind-the-scenes footage, audio and video interviews, commentaries, and so forth to create a comprehensive collage of the making of beloved genre films. So far Benning has produced amazing docs about the Star Wars trilogy and his most recent focusing on the first Indiana Jones adventure called Raiding the Lost Ark. Now the filmmaker has set his sights on the subject of his next “filmumentary.” Prepare yourself for Inside Jaws.

The classic 1975 thriller that launched the career of its young director Steven Spielberg and scared generations of moviegoers away from the ocean is the latest film to get the Benning treatment. Since there have been countless documentaries made about the problem-plagued production and eventual cultural impact of Jaws and archival materials aren’t exactly in short supply, the filmmaker will no doubt have a wealth of footage and information to work with.

Benning discussed his plans for Inside Jaws in a posting yesterday at his website Filmumentaries:

“Today marks the first proper day of research, planning and pre-production on my new Jaws Filmumentary. The title is yet to be set, but I quite like ‘Inside Jaws, A Filmumentary’.

Tonight I am chatting on Skype with Jaws collector extraordinaire Jim Bellar. There is much to talk about the hugely documented movie. I want to make sure there is something new and exciting that I can do with a Jaws filmumentary. Its all a little daunting at this stage.

I am simultaneously reading Matt Taylor and Jim Bellar’s book “Memories from Martha’s Vineyard”, Carl Gottlieb’s “The Jaws Log” and three different versions of the script. This morning I logged the 50 minute version of “The Making of Jaws” on the anniversary DVD.

James B, who did animations on “Raiding the Lost Ark” is back on board too. Hopefully this will come together nicely!”

Jaws is one of my favorite movies of all time and I’m a huge fan of the filmumentaries Benning has made thus far, so I’m highly intrigued at the possibilities regarding Inside Jaws. Benning is known to work fast and post his films for free online so you can expect to see his latest work sticking its pointed fin out sometime in the very near future, but not before Summer. I’m planning on a trip to the beach this year.
