Patton Oswalt To Become A ‘Working Class Hero’ In New Fox Animated Series
  |

The Fox Network’s Sunday “Animation Domination” is about to add another high-profile, not-exactly-for-kids cartoon to its line-up. Not letting the failure of the Jonah Hill-starring Allen Gregory and the highly-hyped but under-performing Napoleon Dynamite deter them, the network has granted a “presentation order” to Working Class Hero, a prospective series set in a world where superheroes are underpaid government employees. Actor, comedian, author, and rising geek god Patton Oswalt will provide the voice for the main character, a super-powered father who often finds that battling villains with designs for world domination is a cake walk compared dealing with his rowdy friends and overbearing family. Working Class Hero will be co-written and executive produced by Mike Barker, who executive produced and co-created the similarly-themed Fox hit American Dad with Seth McFarlane.

Patton Oswalt, who recently earned some of the best reviews of his acting career for his performance in Young Adult, has worked extensively in live-action and animated television since he entered show business more than two decades ago. While struggling as an actor and stand-up comic he won the part of Spencer on the CBS sitcom The King of Queens and appeared regularly during the show’s nine-season run. Late last year he starred in the limited Adult Swim series The Heart She Holler and has played recurring characters on shows like The United States of Tara, Caprica, Bored to Death, and Reno 911. His cartoon voice over work includes appearances on Spongebob Squarepants, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Kim Possible, The Batman, Word Girl, and Neighbors from Hell. In 2007, he provided the voice of the gourmand rat Remy in the Pixar big-screen hit Ratatouille.

The premise of Working Class Hero has been done countless times in the comics and when blended with situation comedy could make for a great show for kids and adults alike if done right. The show definitely has the talent. Let’s hope Fox gives it a real shot. It can’t be much worse than The Cleveland Show.
