The plot line for the currently-in-production Star Trek 2 may still be a matter of national security, but until director J.J. Abrams gives Paramount the go-ahead to release an official plot synopsis, MTV got its hands on some photos from the set rife with interpretive possibilities.
You can check out the images here below.
Since we don’t know anything about the story for the much-anticipated sequel we can barely surmise what exactly is happening in these pics, but the set images clearly depict an intense battle going on between Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana – looking positively badass with a phaser I might add), and the film’s villain, played by British actor Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s Sherlock, Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy).
In the first photo I’m not sure if Quinto is giving Cumberbatch the Vulcan nerve pinch or if Cumberbatch just has a nasty sunburn on his shoulder. Closer inspection reveals that the villain is wearing a Starfleet uniform. One thing I noticed is that James Kirk (Chris Pine) is absent from the action – maybe he’s incapacitated while all this is going on. I do hope that in the sequel Abrams gives Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban) a chance to kick some ass. Sure he may be a doctor, damn it, but Urban has more experience in action movies than most of the new Enterprise crew.
Star Trek 2, which might possibly undergo a title change before its premiere, opens in 2D and post-converted 3D on May 17, 2013. Expect lots of lens flare and a zippy Michael Giacchino score.
