After the muted and mixed response that greeted yesterday’s unveiling of the film’s new poster, Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures have released the second and most likely final trailer for The Avengers.
You can watch it here below.
Now this is more like it. I had great hope that the new trailer would be the eyeball-roasting blast of awesomeness it really has to be, and needless to say that hope was not misplaced. Any and all doubts I may have had about this movie have officially been chucked out the window where they will not be caught in mid-air by the Hulk.
What I greatly enjoyed about this new trailer is that it devoted its first half to showing briefly how each member was recruited and never shying away from the conflict within the team. As Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) said it best, “We’re not a team. We’re a time bomb.” Conflict is one of the key ingredients to creating great drama, and given the disparate personalities that make up the Avengers roster I think we’re in for a movie that skillfully blends epic action with grand character drama. I expect no less from writer-director Joss Whedon.
The Avengers also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, and Stellan Skarsgard. The movie opens in theaters on May 4, 2012. Opening day my friends. Who’s with me?
