Dark Horse Comes To Kobo

Dark Horse Comics continues to grow their digital market when they announced on Monday that they would be bringing digital editions of their comics line to both Barnes and Noble‘s Nook and the Kobo Vox eReaders.

eReaders are one of the top consumer gadgets from the iPad to the Kindle, so it’s no surprise that a comic book publisher would be attempting to gather more ground in that format. Recently, we’ve seen plenty of publishers announce that their comics would be available throughout a variety of eReaders and Dark Horse continues to add to their availability. With this announcement, Dark Horse made titles like Mass Effect, Sin City, Star Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hellboy, and many others available to an even wider audience.

It’s a standard move for a publisher to add itself in the Nook’s marketplace considering the Nook’s considerable growth recently, as well it should be, but the interesting note here is the addition of Kobo Vox because of its relatively new and unproven status within the market. Usually, comic publishers will hold out until a device solidifies its place before making the investment of making their material available. But it appears that the Vox may already have special place already.

The Kobo Vox adds a level of social networking to their device as it allows merging between the documents on the eReader to social sites like Facebook and Twitter. Readers can share passages from the eBooks and connect with others who may also enjoy the same material. How that applies to comics, I’m not sure. Maybe sharing favorite panels or moments? Either way, it sounds like something fun and exciting that Dark Horse is working on with Kobo.

If you would like to pick up Dark Horse books for the Vox, head over to the Kobo site or for the Nook, head over to the Nook storefront from Barnes and Noble.

With all of the recent announcements of publishers moving content to a digital platform, I think that we can finally safely say that digital comics are here to stay.
