‘Jericho’ Writers Hired For Brian K. Vaughan’s ‘Y: The Last Man’ Movie

Much time has passed since we last heard about the always coming but never arriving movie adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s incredible comic book series, Y: The Last Man.

Back in November of 2010 it looked like the long-attached director/star duo of D.J. Caruso and Shia LaBeouf were out and that The Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier was a candidate to take over. Not much has been said since then, but now it would appear that New Line is ready to make another go of it.

It’s being reported that Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia have entered into final negotiations to begin working from scratch on a new screenplay.

The duo have very little feature film experience—their only other being another unreleased movie that’s in the early stages, a prequel titled Zorro Reborn—but have plenty of TV experience, both having written and produced shows like Jericho, Warehouse 13, and Human Target.

This is interesting because many people, myself included, believe that Y: The Last Man would be perfect for a TV series or miniseries on an HBO or a Starz, for example. The fact that they’re still trying to make this movie they’ve had so much trouble making instead of looking at the ultra-popular world of premium TV programming, while bringing in a pair of writers with so much TV experience on their resumes…is curious.

Nevertheless, it does look like another attempt at bringing to life this fantastic story is underway. Now begins the waiting game to see if it will actually materialize into something, or if this attempt too will fail.
