This month in A Game Of Thrones #6 we deal mainly with interpersonal relationships between the characters, helping to feed the already twisting plots. Allies are not always to be trusted, nor are enemies always the most dangerous. George R.R. Martin‘s debut novel is brought to the comic reader in breathtaking fashion.

We begin by seeing Jon Snow humiliating one of his “brothers” of the Night’s Watch. Not his finest hour nor an intelligent move on his part. Luckily, he quickly sees the folly of his ways, just as his father, Eddard Stark, knows that being hundreds of leagues away in King’s Landing is perilous on multiple levels. Surprisingly, he discovers his wife is nearby and being hidden in a most unusual place. Again, not everything is as it seems.

Across The Narrow Sea, the new Khaleesi is learning that she is no longer subject to the demands of others. This includes her brother, Viserys, who has never allowed Daenerys any choices in her life. This revelation comes at a price that he may soon regret. Much time is spent this issue showing her growing sense of self, even including how she deals with Khal Drogo and the rest of the Dothraki.

The combination of Daniel Abraham‘s writing and Tommy Patterson‘s artwork is phenomenal. Even better than the television series, this comic brings the characters to life in a way that has got to thrill Martin. Often I find faults in one spot or another when seeing my favorite books adapted into other forms. This time, however, I have only praise. Well done, Dynamite Entertainment. High fantasy at its finest. A worthy choice for any fan of the genre.
