Snow White and the Huntsman

The Snow White and the Huntsman panel at WonderCon 2012 on Saturday began with E! movie personality Ben Lyons introducing director Rupert Sanders and actresses Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron.

Sanders began with an explanation as to how he managed to stay true to the original material of Snow White, saying he wanted to maintain the authenticity of the original while bringing it to a new and contemporary audience.

Stewart, who plays Snow White, when asked what portion of the film she was most proud of said that she was impressed with how delicately Sanders handled the entire process as a director.

Theron, when asked about her role as the evil queen, explained, “Everybody has a different name for her…. Everybody had an idea for her and there is something kind of nice with fucking with that idea.”

Sanders then introduced a 5-minute exclusive trailer that began with a battle being fought as a narrator spoke of the evil queen’s countless victories. As the evil queen surveyed her victories, she approached a magic mirror that then told her of Snow White. Snow White, being held in a prison, escapes and is chased into “˜The Dark Forest.’ Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman is brought in before the evil queen as the only man to have explored the forest. In a blur of dark creatures and ancient evils, the Huntsman discovers Snow White. The rest of the clip was devoted to Snow White discovering the dwarfs and the battle against the queen raging on.

When Theron was asked why her roles have been leaning more towards, evil characters she said, “Picasso had his blue period, this must be my bitchy period.”

Sanders was then asked why he chose this film as his first feature, to which he responded that, “It was a good opportunity to work with a very rich story and a very well known story.”

It wouldn’t be a panel with Kristen Stewart if someone didn’t mention Twilight. When a fan asked Stewart how it felt playing a strong female lead instead of a damsel in distress, Stewart explained “It was awesome… I have always wanted to do a fucking badass action movie.”
