Watch Now: ‘Prometheus’ Extended International Trailer

Following this past weekend’s release of the new domestic trailer for Prometheus at a Q&A session with director Ridley Scott moderated by screenwriter Damon Lindelof during this year’s WonderCon, 20th Century Fox has blessed us online travelers with an extended international trailer that is structured and paced differently than the domestic.

You can watch the trailer here below.

This international preview is vastly superior to the U.S. trailer we saw this weekend. I love how it draws us in carefully by moving the scenes on Earth to the very beginning. The original Alien, which Prometheus is clearly indebted to if some of the oddly familiar images in the trailer are any indication, was a deliberately-paced film for its time. I hope that Scott, returning to science fiction cinema for the first time in three decades, has remembered the secret genius of his first entry in the genre and kept the story and characters the primary focus and allowed the visual effects (enhanced by what is sure to be some of the most striking use of 3D ever seen on the big screen) to serve the narrative rather than overwhelm it, as so many of the movies made in Alien‘s wake tended to do.

Prometheus stars Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Michael Fassbender, and Noomi Rapace. The film opens in 3D on June 8, 2012.
