A possible teaser poster for next summer’s The Wolverine has leaked today. You can check it out here below.
The image was supposedly taken from the office of director James Mangold. If it proves to be authentic the poster will confirm that the next movie is taking Marvel’s ageless, adamantium-clawed mutant to Japan for a storyline adapted from the early 1980’s comic miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller that will pit Logan against ninjas, samurai, and a lost love. It’s a stark and powerful teaser with Wolverine’s trademark claws slashing through the image of the flag and the tagline “Rising Soon” playing on the nation’s identity as the Land of the Rising Sun.
The upcoming superhero sequel to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been in development for several years now and hit a nasty road bump in its journey to the big screen early last year when Darren Aronofsky, hot off his Oscar-winning hit Black Swan, abruptly departed the director’s chair that would have re-teamed him with his lead actor on The Fountain, Hugh Jackman. Aronofsky brought on Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) to write the screenplay, but when the filmmaker signed off the production to make his long-gestating Biblical epic Noah and was subsequently replaced by Copland and 3:10 to Yuma director Mangold Mcquarrie’s script has been re-written by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, the upcoming Total Recall).
The poster may or may not be a fan-made effort. After all anything is possible. I must say, I love the claw motif in that logo design.
The Wolverine is currently set for release on July 26, 2013. Given 20th Century Fox’s fanatical devotion to meeting release dates the movie could go into production the week before and the studio would still expect it to be finished on time.

I just hope it’s more “First Class” than “Origins”. I’d prefer it if “Origins” never existed.
