IDW To Publish ‘The Cape’ Prequel Mini-Series From Original Creators
  |

IDW Publishing announced on Tuesday that they would be publishing a prequel to the hit mini-series The Cape from Joe Hill, Jason Ciaramella, and Nelson Daniel to provide the origins of the story with The Cape: 1969.

The Cape: 1969 is a look at the dark origins of the mystical piece of cloth that was featured within the pages of The Cape. The story centers around a group of American soldiers fighting through the Vietcong during The Vietnam War. In this we will see where the powers of The Cape originated.

Announced for the series are original story writers Joe Hill, who provided the concept and short story for the 2011 one shot, and Jason Ciaremella, who adapted the short story to the comic book page and built the concept into an entire mini-series. The art on The Cape: 1969 will be provided by Nelson Daniel, who was the colorist on the original mini-series and current artist on Hill’s Road Rage, also published through IDW.

I’m honestly interested in this series as I was a fan of the one shot and subsequent mini-series, but when the mini-series kicked off, I honestly lost a little bit of interest. Since the one shot ended so shockingly, the mini-series just seemed to try to top itself with each issue providing a truly brutal comic book experience. With the announcement of this mini-series, I’m interested to see how they’ll approach this story. If the comic is about finding the source that gave the cape its power, will that be the main goal of this story? Or will it simply be a series about brutal murders done with this power in a Vietnam setting? I am sincerely interested in this comic, even though I wasn’t personally asking myself where the power came from when I was reading The Cape.

There is no current release schedule for The Cape: 1969, but stay tuned to Geeks of Doom for more as I’m sure this will be one of the comics that will be featured on The GoD List in the future. As promised, for a full look at the covers for the first issue, check them out right below these words!
