Warner Bros. Unveils The Official ‘Man of Steel’ Logo

Other than an image released last year of Henry Cavill looking mighty Kryptonian, there hasn’t been much seen on the promotional front for Man of Steel, the Zack Snyder-directed reboot of the Superman movie franchise. Now, Warner Bros. has released the film’s official logo.

You can check out the image here below.

While there will probably never be a better Superman movie in my lifetime than the 1978 epic original directed by Richard Donner that cast the late Christopher Reeve in the role that would come to define his career (and in a sense his life), I am looking forward to seeing how Snyder, co-writers David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan, producer Christopher Nolan, and their amazing cast attempt to make the Last Son of Krypton a 21st century badass to compete on the big screen with his DC brother Batman and the Mighty Marvel Movie Bullpen.

The logo is very keeping in line with the the darker, grittier look the filmmakers are going for as evidenced in the earlier pics and leaked behind-the-scenes stills. The classic Superman S shield looks welded out of burnished red steel. Very appropriate.

Fans have been carping non-stop about the altered Superman costume and the various liberties Snyder and his creative collaborators are taking with the character’s well-worn mythology, bringing to mind the legendary superhero’s 13-year-old stay in Development Hell under the auspices of mega-producer Jon Peters. In my opinion, the character is in sorry need of a kick in the ass; Bryan Singer’s much-touted 2006 action epic Superman Returns was staid and boring.

Man of Steel also stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, and Lawrence Fishburne. Now that is one hell of a cast. The movie opens on June 14, 2013.

  1. There was a better Superman movie than the original 1978 film: Superman II was far superior to the first one.

  2. This logo is very reminiscent of one worn by Superman in the 1930’s and early 1940’s.

  3. Agreed! Better than that was the Donner Cut.

  4. 1 and 2 were supposed to be 1 movie. the producers yanked it from Donner and cut it up.
