The ‘Hellraiser’ Franchise Is Coming To Drag Television Into Hell

Now that its feature film fortunes have dried with the proposed remake stalling and its latest DTV video being greeted with bombastic derision from longtime fans, it looks like Hellraiser is setting its sights on the world of television.

A new series based on the horror movie franchise that began in 1987 with the classic original written and directed by Clive Barker (and based on his novella “The Hellbound Heart”) is being developed over at Sonar Entertainment, formerly RHI Entertainment, the company started by television miniseries impresario Robert Halmi Sr. Halmi and his son Robert Halmi Jr. are no longer with Sonar.

The Hellraiser series will be a co-production of Sonar and Eric Gardner‘s Panacea Entertainment and Gardner will executive produce the show along with Larry Kuppin of New World Entertainment, the company that financed the original Hellraiser film and its 1988 sequel Hellbound: Hellraiser II.

Not much is known about Sonar’s vision for the Hellraiser television series or what direction they intend to take it in, but it’s doubtful Clive Barker will be involved. We’ll bring you more details as they are released.
