There’s plenty of video games that would make perfect sense to turn into a movie. Sometimes, on the other hand, you have to scratch your head at the thought of a certain game getting the cinematic treatment.
It’s being reported that DreamWorks is in negotiations to acquire Need For Speed, a movie based on the hit Electronic Arts racing game series being developed by brothers John Gatins and George Gatins. George is writing the first draft of the screenplay for the movie.
The move is likely in hopes of capitalizing on (and possibly competing with) the success of Universal’s Fast and the Furious franchise.
The question is, why shell out the money to acquire something like Need For Speed instead of just coming up with your own original car racing storyline? There’s little to no substantial story that’s part of the games, just lots of driving. One has to assume having the Need For Speed title attached to your movie will help at the box office, but it also has to be assumed that EA will be receiving quite the payday for it as well.
Do you have any interest in a Need For Speed movie?

Least it can be a F&F clone. Makes a hell of a lot more sense than Battleship
