DC Entertainment and Cartoon Network have released a first look at Beware The Batman in the form of a short teaser trailer, which you can see in its entirety here below.
The trailer, which showcases a Batmobile speeding through a tunnel (Batcave maybe?), gives us a better look at the animation style of the new series. While we knew that this was going to be a CG series, we have yet to see the actual product yet. Well, there’s a couple of things to note here, which we’ll get to after you watch the video.
First, we’ve got a newly designed Batmobile for the series, which is pretty standard for a new incarnation of The Dark Knight. Also, it’s the same kind of polarizing animation that’s currently being used in Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Which, honestly, if it’s rubbing this many people the wrong way and people are criticizing it for looking like it should have come out at around the time of ReBoot, then I really don’t understand going this way, but DC Entertainment doesn’t pay me for my opinions, so we’ll just have to grin and bear it for the time being. I just don’t understand why they couldn’t go with something along the lines of Young Justice, especially considering the apparent dark nature of the series, which brings us to the next point – it seems really dark. Just based on the color palette and tone of the trailer, it seems that the series will be, in tone, much like that of Batman: The Animated Series. I mean, you would never hear Deidrich Bader as Batman from The Brave and The Bold say something like, “Beware my wrath.” That could either help the show or harm it, depending on how far they choose to go. With Professor Pyg as one of the villains, they’re getting close to the line. Lastly, the voice. Bruce Greenwood seems to be the go-to-guy for The Caped Crusader these days, and while he does a good job, he’s not my favorite. Maybe he’ll grow on me during the show.
Beware The Batman is slated to air in the DC Nation block of programming on Cartoon Network later this year.
