Mind The Gap, an ongoing comic from Image Comics, is a story about a girl named Elle who is brutally assaulted and sequentially ends up in the hospital in a coma. As family and friends come to Elle’s aid, Elle’s assailant is still a mystery. Elle, still in a comatose state, is in some sort of limbo between the material world and death. She’s also trying to figure out who attacked her and meets a guide along her journey. The potential line of suspects could be anyone; from Elle’s close friends and family to people we haven’t even met yet.

Mind The Gap #1 is a great beginning to what seems to be an intriguing murder mystery. Writer Jim McCann is a great storyteller and this first issue looks to be something new and interesting. McCann weaves mystery and the supernatural seamlessly into this book making every page turn more and more suspenseful. With each turn of the page, you’re looking for clues as to who is responsible for the attack on Elle and what’s the motive behind the attack.

The art by Rodin Esquejo and Sonia Oback is gorgeous. The choice of color between material and immaterial world really defines the look of the book. The art team on this book has really set the bar high for this series to only have one issue released. I look forward to more mind blowing art from Esquejo and Oback.

Overall, I’m sold on Mind The Gap #1. Count me in for the rest of the series. I’m all for a good whodunit story and I really think McCann, Esquejo, and Oback has something really special here. If you’re up for an intriguing beginning to a great mystery, then shall I suggest Mind The Gap. For $2.99 and 52 pages of story, you can’t go wrong. It’s worth it!
