FREE Listen: UFO’s ‘The Chrysalis Years Collection (1980-1986)’
  |

AOL Music is giving fans of the hard rock/heavy metal band UFO a FREE listen right now of their 5-CD box set collection of the band’s Chrysalis records era, which was recently this week on CD and MP3.

Entitled UFO: The Chrysalis Years (1980-1986) the collection houses the band’s five albums released by the record label: No Place to Run (1980), Wild, Willing and the Innocent (1981), Mechanix (1982), Making Contact (1983), and Misdemeanor (1986). There are also tracks from some live performances in Cleveland, Ohio; on the BBC in England, and that country’s Hammersmith Odeon as well.

Led by the guttural hard rock-by-numbers vocals of Phil Mogg and the at-once clean and heavy attack of guitar player Paul Chapman, (who had replaced the legendary Michael Schenker on axe), UFO has their place in the hard rock/heavy metal/early British metal file cabinet.

There are plenty of songs for a fan of this genre to chew on, ranging from “riff rockers” like “Letting Go,” “No Place to Run,” “Chains Chains,” “The Writer,” “Feel It,” and “Diesel in the Dust” to quiet, heavy blues turns and ballads like “Gone in the Night,” “Take it or Leave It,” “Anyday,” “Lonely Heart,” “Terri,” and plenty of stuff in between those two aforementioned styles. This line up of UFO remains sort a bridge between the heaviness that started at the turn of the 1970s and into the end of that decade with bands like Led Zeppelin, Foghat, The Scorpions, Whitesnake to Nazareth and later early mid 1980s bands like 38 Special, Loverboy, Y&T, Poison, and Motley Crue. UFO had been around for a decade at this point in their career, going through many lineups, but they have had a strong fan base which continues on to this modern era. This is a perfect collection for any fan of the group who may have worn out their vinyl copies when they first purchased these records, some over 30 years ago.

So go on over to AOL Music and check out this great deal and have a listen to the wide range of the hard rock posturings and diverse heavy metal sounds and styles, that is UFO.
