Bomb Queen #4 is the first issue of this title that I’ve read. It’s nice to go into something with no preconceived notions or expectations. And, I have to say, I was pretty pleasantly surprised by this comic.
Writer Jimmie Robinson crafts a really…different kind of comic here. It’s the perfect blend of sci-fi and super heroes, one mash-up that I’m normally not too big a fan off, but I have to say, Robinson pulls it off IN SPADES. He’s created a great version of the future that’s not really post-apocalyptic, but it’s not all hoverboards and flying cars, either. The weird thing is, and this might be a TINY spoiler – Bomb Queen is hardly in the book. However, there’s a great deal of Shadowhawk and what Robinson did here is genius. While not interrupting his normal story, he’s made me want to know more about Bomb Queen AND Shadowhawk! Now that’s a job well done! You definitely get your money worth in this issue, as it’s NOT a quick read at all. There’s a lot going on in the issue, and make sure you pay attention to the backgrounds and captions!
As an artist Jimmie Robinson is a lot of fun. He draws the ladies VERY WELL. And there’s really a kinetic energy that comes off the pages here in this book. There’s a lot of fun super hero and sci-fi stuff and when he combines the two here, it’s a pretty fun ride. As a bonus, there’s a lot of interesting tech and gadgets that he’s created that are just plain out awesome. My only complaint is that sometimes he skips that backgrounds in panels, and I know it’s for storytelling effect, but it’s one of my pet peeves and I don’t care for it. But, it’s really sparse and doesn’t make me enjoy the book any less.
If you want some fun, pick this up. A great blend of a few different genres that’s really just a good time wrapped in a sexy cover! There is one BIG important matter about this book that I feel I should inform you about. This book is NOT for children or teens or people who are easily offended. There’s a lot of strong language, so be forewarned. If that’s not an issue with you, go grab this series, you’re going to enjoy it!
