Fox Release Dates: ‘Independence Day 3D,’ ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,’ & Untitled ‘X-Men: First Class’ Sequel
  |  @   |

Fox has just released a collection of release dates for some of their major films. The slate contains highly anticipated sequels, original projects, and a re-release, including Independence Day 3D, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and an untitled X-Men: First Class Sequel.

First up, Fox plans to release a Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy untitled buddy cop comedy on April 5, 2013. That will be followed by a 3D re-release of Independence Day on the fitting date of July 3, 2013. That same year, the Percy Jackson sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters hits theaters on August 16, 2013. And closing out the year for Fox will be the adaptation of the highly successful TV series Walking with the Dinosaurs on December 20th and the Ben Stiller-directed comedy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on Christmas Day.

Looking forward to 2014 will be Steven Spielberg‘s Robopocalypse. Then the highly anticipated sequel to The Rise of the Planet Sequel, now titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, is scheduled for a May 23, 2014 release. And finally, the sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class sequel opens in theaters on July 18th, 2014.

As you can see, there are more than just confirmation of release dates. There are 3D re-releases. This seems to be a response to the success that Paramount had with the re-release of Titanic in 3D. But maybe the re-release will be the key to see if audiences really want to see a sequel to Independence Day.

The new release date also confirms that the title of The Rise of the Planet of the Apes will be Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Just by the title alone we can gather than the apes are becoming more intelligent, and they have conquering the humans in their sights.

The new scheduling slate also confirms that Spielberg needs much more time to work on Robopocalypse. He is a busy man after all. So the move isn’t all that surprising.

So which of these Fox movies are you looking forward to the most?
