Double Jumpers #1
Story, Script and Letters by Dave Dwonch
Art and Colors by Bill Blankenship
Action Lab Comics
Release Date: May 30, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Here’s what Action Lab Comics say about there release of Double Jumpers #1: “The chaos begins after Jason and his team of programmers gets stuck in their own virtual reality game and must find a way to get back to the real world. Unbeknownst to them, the fantasy characters they inhabit have taken control of their bodies”¦ and now wizards and warriors run free in Las Vegas during the biggest videogame convention of the year!” Now, I have to admit, reading that description didn’t get me very excited, but I was VERY pleasantly surprised at how much I loved the actual comic itself!!

Writer Dave Dwonch knocks it out of the park with this book!!! The story is original, and so are the characters. Yes, they are a group of “stereotypical nerds,” but they’re really not stereotypical at all. By making them all high functioning nerds, he really makes the story more enjoyable. Moreover, this group of characters is under the gun, not just victims of circumstance like in other stories along this vein that I’ve read before. This comic is refreshing, new, original and TONS OF FUN!

The art by Bill Blankenship fits this book like a glove. And this is one of those cases where the art does nothing but help the book. Blankenship does a great job rendering both the fantasy video game world of The Dungeon Lords and the “real world.” His art is very kinetic and has a great cartoon feel.

I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It’s new, it’s different, and best of all, it’s FUN!!! Comics like that are few and far between right now. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up!
