A movie studio’s marketing team generally releases tiny and sometimes insignificant clips to movies to drive up public interest, which hopefully in turn will make some amazing box office numbers. But when does it become too much? Is 5 minutes worth marketing clips too much? 10 minutes? What about 25 minutes worth of footage?
Well apparently Sony has cross that threshold and released 25 minutes worth of footage from The Amazing Spider-Man. Not consecutively of course. But it was just enough for someone to piece together and make a condensed version of the full movie. Check out the video below.
Oh and big spoilers will follow.
So was it a good idea for Sony Pictures to release so much footage? Is it a bad idea to watch it? To be honest no on the former, and yes on the later. Vimeo user Sleepyskunk used all of the promotional materials available to edit this ingenious trailer, which I had the pleasure of watching. Obviously there will be a mix of video quality in the video, considering Sleepskunk did pull the footage from various clips, trailers, viral videos, etc. And there’s still a lot of action sequences missing from the actual movie, not that you can’t get the gist of them from watching the video, but it still would be nice to see the complete sequence unfold.
I am still amazed that there is this much footage out there for someone to compile and edit to form a shorten version of the actual movie. Being a Spidey fan myself, I could tell that director Marc Webb was aiming to bring the webslinger from the comics to life. I am still unsure of the chemistry between the Peter (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen (Emma Stone) though. Although there was a lot between the two, it just seemed like the two didn’t click. Again, this is just based on the 25 minutes worth of footage that I saw.
Seeing as this footage keeps popping up on the, I might as well show you all the hub bub (so watch it while you can!). The Amazing Spider-Man opens in theaters on July 3rd.
Every time I see footage of this movie all I think is “this is not Spider-man.” They’ve taken away his heart and personality. This is a douche bag emo wannabe Spider-man. Â
I don’t like it.
