Sigourney Weaver Says James Cameron Plans To Shoot ‘Avatar’ Sequels Back-To-Back

If and when James Cameron begins filming his Avatar sequels, everyone will be closely watching if he can match or elevate the look and feel of Pandora. Avatar is only the highest grossing film of all time, so it is only fair that the audience get something that’s fresh and improved. Cameron has said that he will stop making non-Avatar films — after he said you would have to pry Battle Angel out of his cold dead hands – and sees himself making an Avatar 4. But if he really intends to make three sequels to Avatar, one can’t even imagine how long the film making process would actually take.
So rather than shoot these three sequels separately, why not shoot them all together at once? At least that’s what Avatar star Sigourney Weaver says will happen.
Showbiz 411 (via ComingSoon) reports that Weaver doesn’t officially know when production for these Avatar sequels will begin, but that Cameron’s plans are for her to just show up again.
Just a minor spoiler to those who have yet to see Avatar: Grace dies towards the end of the movie, so Cameron’s request for Weaver to come back confirms that she will return in one form or another.
Now this could be just Weaver talking, but it’s not confirmed if these sequels would actually shoot back-to-back. But the best way to shoot multiple sequels and eliminate the lengthy process would be to shoot the sequels back-to-back-to-back. It worked for Lord of the Rings, so theoretically it should work for Avatar.
Producer Jon Landau said that it could be a while before we could see Avatar 2, but they are aiming for a December 2014 release. The reason being is that because Cameron and his team have spent the last year and a half improving the software that allowed them to make Pandora feel so real.
Again, nothing is actually confirmed, and until we hear it from Cameron himself, we should take every bit of Avatar news from sources other than him with a grain of salt.
