Blue Sky Studios may not have as many titles in their library as Pixar or DreamWorks Animation, but they do have some pretty respectable ones.
Take Ice Age, for instance. Though the film lacks great stories, it has become one of the most profitable film franchises for the studio. Then there’s Rio, also a very profitable film, and one that has earned a few awards along the way.
Now comes EPIC, a film that takes Ferngully, and turns into an epic adventure of all shapes and sizes. You can see the first trailer for the movie below.
EPIC follows a teenage explorer who is magically shrunk down to microscopic proportions and gets tangled up in forest war. Josh Hutcherson lends his voice as the lead forest warrior with Amanda Seyfried playing as the teenage girl.
The first trailer for epic immediately pops out with lush greenery and bright rays of light. The camera movement in some of the sequences are just some of the best moments of the trailer. It reminds me a lot of Hayao Miyazaki’s earlier work, great animation, great storytelling, no unnecessary slapstick.
But that is where the trailer begins to fall apart, right when the trailer ends with slapstick. I certainly hope there isn’t a lot of slapstick in the film as it could diminish the entertainment value.
Beyonce, Colin Farrell, Johnny Knoxville, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Blake Anderson, and Judah Friedlander also lend their voices to EPIC.
The Chris Wedge-directed feature opens in theaters on May 24, 2013.
Seriously, why is it that I still in 2012 get “this video is not available in your location” when companies have to know that EVERYTHING is available to everyone on the net? Took me two extra clicks and I was able to see this at another site.
It’s apparently back. This is official from Yahoo movies, so I don’t think they pulled the video, I think maybe they moved urls around. I don’t know, I’ve seen this happen before, it’s usually that they reupload the video (maybe they initially uploaded the wrong version).
