New Robocop and ED-209 Appear In OmniCorp Viral Video
  |  @   |

Hey creeps, FamousMonster here with some RoboCop news just in time for San Diego Comic-Con. Director Jose Padhila‘s reimagining of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film has already assembled an impressive cast including Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson, and Hugh Laurie – and now we’ve got some images of what to expect in regard to the film’s design aesthetic.

The OmniCorp website is live and features the first video in a viral campaign for the upcoming RoboCop remake. Before we get into the nitty-gritty, let’s take a look at Omni Consumer Products’ mission statement:

SAFETY. CONVICTION. LEADERSHIP.

For a half-century, these words have set the framework upon which OmniCorp has aimed to build a brighter world.

We don’t do passive technology. At OmniCorp, our solutions generate a beacon of safety that we shine upon on the dangers of the day. No matter the obstacle – political, cultural, philosophical – we pursue our convictions around the globe to secure peace of mind at home. And when this requires bold new direction, we never allow doubt to shrink our duty. When your quality of life is in the balance, our leadership team will tip the scales.

Our products have elevated your lives. Our people have inspired your future. Our passion will always be at your side.

I’d buy that for a dollar! Sounds like OmniCorp is an unholy consumer mega-power birthed from the corporate merger between Sony Electronics and Resident Evil‘s Umbrella Corporation with a dash of V for Vendetta‘s fascist Norsefire Party. The “Product Line” video gives us our first look at a shiny new ED-209, which now comes complete with a glossy black finish.

The streamlined design looks like Shockwave had passionate sex with a Playstation 3. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see they left some of the design’s more iconic elements intact, but this ED-209 looks like something you’d see in a deleted scene from McG’s Terminator: Salvation.

And then there’s the the XT-908, an aerial drone which promises maximum force with zero casualties. I’d imagine we’ll see the XT-908 in Padhila’s film as a way of keeping tabs on RoboCop once he’s off the leash and the executives at OmniCorp are no longer able to rein him in. Again, there’s something about this design that screams Terminator to me (and not the good Terminator films, either).

Finally, the viral video teases us with glimpses of the RoboCop or RC-2000 chassis, which forgoes the gray/blue/black color scheme of the original and replaces it with, you guessed it, a glossy black finish accented by red lights.

I wonder if this cyborg cop has Netflix and plays Blu-Rays as well? In any case, I’m excited to see the entire design and what San Diego Comic-Con unveils. Keep your internet dials tuned to Geeks of Doom for more news, and check out the viral video below:
