SDCC 2012: Neil Gaiman Returns To ‘The Sandman’ With New Mini-Series

Well this sure is interesting. It was announced at the DC Comics/Vertigo Comic-Con panel on Thursday that legendary creator Neil Gaiman is returning to the comic book series that made him a household name, The Sandman, and he’s bringing J.H. Williams III along with him.

As of now, as is the case with most San Diego Comic-Con related news, there’s not a lot to report, but the comic is labeled as a mini-series from the series’ creator, Gaiman, and Williams, the current main creative force behind Batwoman, as the artist.

Continue reading for a quote from Gaiman, a video of the announcement from the man himself, and some preview art that was shown off in San Diego.

Gaiman spoke with DC about his decision to return to The Sandman:

When I finished writing THE SANDMAN, there was one tale still untold. The story of what had happened to Morpheus to allow him to be so easily captured in THE SANDMAN #1, and why he was returned from far away, exhausted beyond imagining, and dressed for war. It was a story that we discussed telling for Sandman’s 20th anniversary… but the time got away from us. And now, with Sandman’s 25th anniversary year coming up, I’m delighted, and nervous, that that story is finally going to be told.

The comic will return in 2013 and will be published on DC’s Vertigo imprint. Obviously we here at Geeks of Doom are incredibly excited, and the fact that each of these comics will be day and digital is certainly friendly to those of us with tablets and iPads. Seriously, I can’t stress how big this is.

You guys, Neil Gaiman is coming back to Sandman in 2013!
