SDCC 2012: Mark Wahlberg and Leverage Producing ‘The Amory Wars’ Movie
  |

Claudio Sanchez and Evil Ink Comics announced on Saturday that they will be partnering with Stephen Levinson‘s Leverage and Mark Wahlberg to bring us The Amory Wars, the epic story presented in a series of comic books from Boom! Studios and explored in Sanchez’s band Coheed and Cambria, to life with a live action feature film.

The Amory Wars is a multi-part sci-fi epic that tells the story of Coheed and Cambria Kilgannon and their son, Claudio, who serves as a reluctant hero and is destined to save the Keywork, a series of planets in an alternate universe, from the evil grasp of the superhuman dictator Wilhelm Ryan.

The story is a four part series consisting of Year of The Black Rainbow, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 and Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV: Part One – Fear Through The Eyes of Madness and Part Two – No World For Tomorrow. The story has been told in its entirety through the music of Coheed and Cambria, two parts (Second Stage Turbine Blade and In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3) have been told in completion in comic books, and chapter one, Year of The Black Rainbow, has been told in the form of a prose novel. The story was created by the Coheed and Cambria singer, and was co-written in both comic and novel form by legendary comic scribe Peter David. A movie has been rumored and clamored after by fans of the series, myself included, for some time now, and having this confirmed is wonderful news.

Leverage and Wahlberg are the same team that have brought successful properties such as Boardwalk Empire, Entourage and Contraband, and as a fan, I’m extremely excited about the prospect of potential here. Having a talented group like Leverage and Wahlberg producing one of my favorite stories is incredible. Not only is there potential for a live action movie to happen, but having the potential to have it be a flat out good movie makes me even more excited. I’d be more excited, naturally, if The Amory Wars had been announced as a five-part film franchise, but for now, this will suffice.

There’s no word as of yet who will be handling the scripting or directing, but at this point, I think it’s fair to speculate that David, Sanchez and Sanchez’s wife and colleague Chondra Echert will be writing the film.
