The GoD List: Comics For July 18, 2012
  |

Each and every week “Going Solor” MK2Fac3 and “Henchman Isn’t Here Anymore Mrs. Torrence” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of July 18, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Look guys, we all know that comic books are totally awesome. That’s the whole reason why we put out this here GoD List every single week. There’s always a lot of stuff to look forward to, and sometimes we can’t get it all together. This week, though, my mind is completely on The Dark Knight Rises, and I’m sure you feel the same. However, we want you to read comics, so it’s time to put TDKR on the back burner for just a moment, and then we’ll move on to more Batman talk later in the day. You ready to do this? I’m ready to do this. Henchman isn’t here this week, so let’s get to it!

ISSUES:

Captain Marvel #1 (Marvel Comics – $2.99): The one comic you need to read is Kelly Sue DeConnick and Dexter Soy’s Captain Marvel #1. Carol Danvers is on a new mission and is now the newly appointed Captain Marvel. Personally, I’m really interested in this comic because DeConnick is a very good writer. She’s done several things in the past, but a high profile book featuring a female in the role of a traditionally male character is something that should make you interested. Yes, most of the reason people will buy this is for the small gimmick that is character changing. People will want to see exactly how this change happened and whether or not it will be any good, naturally. Me though, I’ve added it to my pull list for the long haul. DeConnick, as stated before, is an extremely talented writer, and I have completely faith that this is a comic that I will continue to want to read. At $2.99, it’s more affordable than a large percentage of other comics out there, so if you’ve got an extra three bucks today, give Captain Marvel a shot, I honestly don’t think you’ll regret it.

Infernal Man-Thing #2 (of 3) (Marvel Comics – $3.99): I picked up the first issue of Infernal Man-Thing a couple of weeks ago, but I haven’t had the chance to read it yet. But y’know, I don’t really need to read it yet to know that I’ll be reading all three issues at some point. I mean, it’s written and drawn by Steve Gerber. In fact, it’s the last Man-Thing story he ever created. So, if you’ve ever passingly enjoyed Man-Thing, you need to pick up this comic. You. Need. To.

COLLECTION:

Sunset HC (Image Comics – $19.99): Really, I haven’t had time to sit down and check out what this comic is all about, but I have heard really good things from a variety of sources I trust. Christos Cage and Jorge Lucas are both extremely gifted creators, so I have no doubt that this will be a solid read about something that I’m sure to like. I may not be able to pick it up this week, but Sunset is definitely close to the top of my to-read list. [Also available for pre-order at amazon.]
