Producer Frank Marshall Says George Lucas Isn’t Hungry To Do ‘Indiana Jones 5’

May fans agree that the one great error in the Indiana Jones series was its most recent installment, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Hard to believe that a film that made so much at the box office can be panned critically and publicly, but it was, yet some are holding on to hope that a fifth Indiana Jones can put the iconic adventurer back on top.

Unfortunately, producer Frank Marshall doesn’t see that happening any time soon or at all. According to him, it all ends with four.

In an interview with Collider, Marshall said,

I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah. I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin.

Previous Indiana Jones installments all had MacGuffins (or plot devices that drive the story), so by not having one means that there is no story. Now this doesn’t mean that the idea of having a fifth Indiana Jones is dead, but hearing something like this isn’t good news either.

Marshall also talks about his wife, Kathleen Kennedy, who was named as the head of Lucasfilm, and George Lucas, confirms Marshall’s sentiment.

“Yeah, no he isn’t [hungry to do another Indiana Jones]. And he’s obviously passing the baton to my wife, so.”

And with that statement, you can consider any hope of having a fifth Indiana Jones gone (for now!). If this turns out to be true, then it’s sad to say that such an amazing franchise will all end with the uninspired Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Do you think they should move forward with a fifth Indiana Jones to make us forget about Crystal Skull or should they just stop where they are at?
