THQ Cancels Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘inSane’ Video Game Trilogy
  |  @   |

Remember that video game titled inSane being developed by Volition Studios along with the great Guillermo del Toro through THQ? Last we heard a year or so ago they had been developing it for about a year with still two to three more years to go, it was being built as a trilogy, and it was going to be a massive sandbox-style game with some truly terrifying beasties to encounter.

Well, as it turns out, THQ either wasn’t impressed enough with what they were seeing, or didn’t want to wait as long as they were waiting to get the game. It’s been announced that the company has canceled pre-production on inSane, effectively reverting the rights back to del Toro.

THQ president Jason Rubin was just quoted at Comic-Con last month that they were still in production on inSane, so the announcement comes as a bit of surprise. Though, knowing what we know about company’s that are too scared to march forward with del Toro’s always ambitious projects, it should not be too shocking to anyone.

Not too long ago, Guillermo had one of the biggest and most ambitious horror movies of all time, the H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, At the Mountains of Madness, well on the way to an army of excited fans. Then, out of nowhere, Universal decided to bail on the project (because del Toro refused to budge on the movie being R-rated, gods bless him, which terrifies those who wear suits despite plenty of R-rated flicks making good money lately), which forced the director to move on to a more suit-friendly PG-13 monster movie, Pacific Rim.

Now del Toro will have two projects to shop around to other potential buyers, Mountains of Madness and inSane.
