Nicolas Cage Reportedly Cast For The Expendables 3

The Expendables 2 raised the bar by adding more classic action stars (Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme) to the film series, and as the saying goes, nothing really beats the classics. So for The Expendables 3, fans shouldn’t be surprised to see even more classic action superstars punch, kick, fight, and bomb their way through enemy forces.

Obviously with a sequel such as this one, the question of who would you like to see be added to the next installment will come up and producer Avi Lerner did throw out a couple of names that should excite fans of The Expendables franchise. Among the stars the producer mentioned were Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford, and Clint Eastwood. Quite a collection of names which should make for a very exciting sequel. In fact, Cage is reportedly signed on for the third film, while the other three are still in negotiations.

The producer told Total Film he has been in talks with Eastwood about the possibility of a role in The Expendables 3. Of course with the amount of acting work Eastwood tends to put out, it is hard to believe that he will sign on. But if he does, there’s not doubt that the entertainment value for the film will go up a few notches. Lerner also hopes to get Snipes in the sequel as well once the actor has finished serving his time in prison. Then there’s Ford, whom we haven’t seen in quite a while. So the possibility of him being in the picture is also slim.

“We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters].”

Without actually knowing what stages of negotiations Lerner is in with these actors, it’s hard to say if they will actually sign on. But if they do, the director will have to find a way to make sure that the film has enough balance among the numerous characters. But I’m surprised to see that actors like Vinnie Jones or Jackie Chan weren’t even mentioned. Those are some other action stars I’d like to see in The Expendables 3. Lerner also commented that he would like to see Mickey Rourke reprise his role for the sequel, but only if the actor isn’t too crazy, and that the previous stars would return.

“And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]”

So what do you think of the shortlist of actors Lerner has been talking to and who would you like to see in The Expendables 3.
