‘The Master’ Clip: Joaquin Phoenix Gets A Letter
  |  @   |

This is sure to make the cinephiles who live outside Chicago jealous. There is an advanced screening of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master being held tonight and it will be presented in 70mm, the way that PTA would like you to see the film. The highly anticipated film about a navy drifter (Joaquin Phoenix) who becomes a believer of a man of a newly found religion is making its official debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. But even before it does that, it will continue to make some extra special rounds, which is sure to rally film goers who have been waiting to see another PTA piece. There was already a special screening of the film held in Santa Monica, and to promote tonight’s screening in Chicago, a new trailer or clip has been released. Check it out below.

The clip is called “She Wrote Me A Letter” shows Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman) talking about when people are in love, people are in pain. It also shows Amy Adam‘s character talking about the philosophy of Dodd’s newly found religion. And at the end of the clip, we see that there will be a special 70mm screening of the film at the Music Box Theater in Chicago. But don’t try to get tickets to this screening, as they have been sold out. Proceeds will go out to benefit the Film Foundation.

There are also hints of Jonny Greenwoods’ score, and like his previous work on There Will Be Blood, it pretty much sets the tone of the film. Chilling, haunting, and very powerful.

Patience is a virtue; we will finally get to see Anderson’s latest directorial effort, when The Master opens in theaters on September 14.
