There’s nothing really new about movies being adapted into video games or visa versa. Oftentimes both products don’t even hold a candle to their counterparts. But on those rare occasions, it can work. Using some trailer footage and other material from Rian Johnson‘s upcoming sci-fi film Looper, Deepak Chetty created Looper The Movie The 8-Bit Video Game. The trailer doesn’t use some cutting edge technology you would see on a PS3 or XBOX 360; instead, Chetty created an 8-bit trailer. Check it out below.
Watching the trailer, there is a feeling of nostalgia that overwhelmed me. The music, the tone, the visuals, even the “press start” option all brought me back to the days of 8-bit video games.
Here’s what Chetty had to say about creating the trailer:
Made this while waiting for other renders to go through. Definitely my most anticipated movie of the fall/winter. Hopefully this is a start of a series of cinema games that never existed.
For those wondering how Chetty created this video, he used After Effects and Photoshop. Thanks to The Verge (via Firstshowing) for finding this video.
Looper centers on a group of assassins who kill their targets sent from the future. Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is one of the Loopers’ top assassins, but his next target is his future self (Bruce Willis). Unable to kill his target, Joe must find a way to fix this problem or he’ll be assassinated himself.
The film also stars Emily Blunt, Piper Perabo, Jeff Daniels, and Paul Dano. Looper opens in theaters on September 28.

Very cool. But I think that might could be more than 8-bit. lol

This isn’t even 16bit, never mind 8bit. The music is bangin’ though, who is it, Sycamore Drive?
