The marketing for Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master has been absolutely great. We’ve gotten prolific teasers, a real trailer, a secret showing, and advanced screenings for a good cause.
Now in the days leading up to the Toronto International Film Festival, The Weinstein Company has released one more trailer. Check it out below.
It’s short and sweet, and the most surprising thing about this trailer is that it shows a lot of new footage. Looking at it, I am even more intrigued to see how one fallen Navy man (Joaquin Phoenix) can be so enraptured by the words of Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman) who just created a new faith-based organization. Amy Adams will have a supporting role as Dodd’s wife.
This may be the last trailer for the film, but it’s a great look at Anderson’s vision. The film has already received a lot of praise, so you know it will be great. Best thing is, The Master will also be released in 70mm. The trailer debuted on IMDB, but The Film Stage provided us with the embedding.
The Master opens in theaters on September 14 in limited theaters and then expands to wide release on September 21.
Hmmmm, don’t know – think the early teaser and this final mish-mash only dilute one of the very best trailers of the last couple of years. I have that thing on repeat, it’s glorious. Can’t wait for the film to hit!
