‘Magic Mike 2’ Could Be A Road Trip Comedy
  |  @   |

Magic Mike was able to draw in huge numbers this past summer thanks in part to the appeal of hot sexy male dancers taking the stage and stripping off their clothes. But Steven Soderbergh made a deeper film that showed that some male strippers have dreams off the dance floor. So while the film looks like it may stop at one, Channing Tatum thinks that there are more stories to tell, and wants to direct a sequel.

In an interview with German film site Filmstarts, writer Reid Carolin and Tatum spoke about the ideas they have for Magic Mike 2 and who could be filling the director’s chair now Soderbergh, is retiring.

According to the two, Soderbergh’s long-time producing partner Gregory Jacobs might be the one to direct the sequel, but should he be unable to direct the film, the two offered themselves as possible names to direct the follow-up. Based on Tatum’s quotes, it’s possible that Magic Mike could take a comedic turn.

“We have a story, and it is really ridiculous and fun. It’s a road movie sort of thing, where a bunch of strippers get back together. It’s more of a broad comedy. I don’t know whether it will happen or not.”

If that were going to be the case, then it would be the first time that the two would call themselves directors. Like many successful actors before him, Tatum has already made the jump from being an actor to being a producer. With so much writing and producing experience behind him, it was only a matter of time before Carolin would become a director.

Tatum helming a film may not be so bad though. The actor has been working with Soderbergh for Haywire, Magic Mike, and The Bitter Pill, so it’s very likely that he probably gained some knowledge from the director.
