James Cameron’s ‘Jurassic Park’ Would Have Been More Like ‘Aliens’; Thoughts On ‘Prometheus’
  |  @   |

Not every director has the same vision or style, and sometimes, a director feels that the movie in question would have been handled differently if he or she were the one directing. Such is the case with Jurassic Park. Recently Avatar director James Cameron spoke to the UK’s Huffington Post, where he said his Jurassic Park would have been different from Steven Spielberg‘s. According to him, it would have been more like Aliens.

The director also talked to Moviefone, where he gave some huge praise for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

In the interview, Cameron reveals that he was just mere hours away from getting the movie rights to Jurassic Park, but Spielberg beat him to it. According to him, Spielberg made a much better film, because his version would have been darker.

Cameron says that his version of Jurassic Park would have shared the same tone with one of his previous sci-fi hits, Aliens. Here’s Cameron commenting on why he was so happy he didn’t get the job.

“When I saw the film, I realised that I was not the right person to make the film, he was. Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been ‘Aliens’ with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair,” Cameron explained. “Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded for that. His sensibility was right for that film, I’d have gone further, nastier, much nastier.”

That’s quite humbling actually. He openly admits that he wasn’t the right person for the job and sees the flaws that his movie would have had. I actually can respect that answer. Spielberg’s Jurassic Park was a made for both kids and adults and the thought of that film being much darker and nastier is great, but it’s something that kids and families would not gravitate towards.

On the subject of Prometheus, this is what Cameron had to say about Ridley Scott’s so-called Alien prequel:

I enjoyed “Prometheus”; I thought it was great. I thought it was Ridley returning to science fiction with gusto, with great tactical performance, beautiful photography, great native 3D. There might have been a few things that I would have done differently, but that’s not the point, you could say that about any movie.

Would you liked to have seen a Jurassic Park directed by James Cameron, or are you happy with the one Steven Spielberg directed? Do you agree with Cameron’s opinion on Prometheus?

  2. Cameron would’ve done much better with Prometheus. If you sit down and think about the movie, it was a mess with gaping plot holes. I can’t image Cameron would’ve made the same mistakes. Ridley is just getting old…or Fox got to him
