Magical Mystery Tour, the 1967 feature film by The Beatles, comes to Blu-ray and DVD and even a large Deluxe Box Set (Blu-ray/DVD/double-vinyl EP) on October 9th. This long-awaited release, which has never gotten a proper treatment for the home market until now, is jam packed with extras, is fully restored, and of course contains some of the best known and beloved Beatles songs of all time.

The film was originally an ambitious project by the Fab Four, mainly by Paul McCartney, which was a wild and crazy kinetic offering of disjointed sketches and sequences by way of the Beatles’ trip on a large bus to the seaside, with vivid, crazy, and funny characters along the way, is a perfect visual primer to the wild psychedelic 1967 Summer of Love that preceded its release, originally shown on British television in late 1967.

First considered a major failure by the British press, Magical Mystery Tour has gone on to become a fascinating curio in the world of Beatles products. Most people only know of the title song, which became another smash hit for the Fab Four. Seeing only limited release in this country for decades, the upcoming Blu-Ray and DVD is sure to be a welcome addition for any Beatlephile or casual fan of the colorful group. Some of the extras include audio commentary by Paul McCartney, interviews with him and Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, loads of unreleased scenes and mini documentaries about the production. In addition to the Blu-Ray and DVD, there will also be a deluxe edition release as well, sporting a double vinyl record included within, with the remastered soundtrack, which includes the title track, “I Am The Walrus,” “Your Mother Should Know,” and “Blue Jay Way” among others. So, roll up for the Magical Mystery Tour, when it comes to take you away, on October 9th (which of course incidentally, is John Lennon’s birthday).

It was then broadcast on “Top of the Pops” to mark the “Hello Goodbye” single going to No. 1 in December 1967.
