‘Stoker’ Trailer: Fear, Sexuality, and Tension
  |  @   |

Oldboy director Park Chan-wook is taking his work to the States. Chan-wook introduced himself to global moviegoers with films like Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Now he is gearing up for his first English-language directed film, Stoker. The first trailer for Stoker has finally arrived online.

Check out the first trailer here below.

The cold chill that Nicole Kidman gives off creates the kind of tension that is rarely seen in movies. Kidman plays Evelyn, a widower to the Stoker family, who lacks the capacity to warm up to the Stoker family patriarchal daughter, India (Mia Wasikowska). Things only get worse when Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode) pays the two a visit. And by worse I mean creepy worse.

Stoker is not the kind of film that leaves you rooting for any of the characters. Kidman is cold and uninviting; Wasikowska is violent and antisocial; and Goode is creepy. All of these are great elements for a thriller involving a very dysfunctional family. The sound of the metronome keeps you on edge until the very end of the trailer. It’s just a nice way of trying to reel you into watching Stoker.

You can check out the trailer in HD on Apple. Fox Searchlight will release Chan-wook’s Stoker in theaters on March 1, 2013.

Here’s the official synopsis:

After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

So what do you think?
