After turning in a scene-stealing performance in Bridesmaids last year, Melissa McCarthy signed on for Seth Gordon‘s Identity Thief. McCarthy stars opposite Jason Bateman in a comedy about a nitwit who steals the identity of an uptight businessman. Now we got the first trailer for the film, which you can check out here below.
Identity Thief arrives in theaters on February 8, 2013, but it’s a bit strange to see a comedy with so much potential being released during a time when the box office isn’t exactly booming. But Identity Thief could be a sleeper hit that no one sees coming. McCarthy has already established herself as a solid comedian, and Bateman never fails to make us laugh. The film also stars Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet, Genesis Rodriguez, John Cho, Robert Patrick, and Eric Stonestreet.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Horrible Bosses’ Jason Bateman and Bridesmaids’ Melissa McCarthy lead the cast of Identity Thief, an all-star comedy in which a regular guy is forced to extreme measures to clear his name. With everything to lose after his identity is stolen, he’ll find out how crazed you can get trying to settle a bad credit score.
Unlimited funds have allowed Diana (McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There’s only one glitch: The ID she’s using to finance these sprees reads “Sandy Bigelow Patterson””¦ and it belongs to an accounts rep (Bateman) who lives halfway across the U.S.
With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back.

This movie looks pretty funny, especially because I think it’s a great mix between Jason Bateman who plays the straight-faced guy in comedies so well, and Melissa McCarthy and her bombastic on-screen persona.
Also, loved that they used N*E*R*D’s “Lapdance” in the trailer, hope it’s in the movie, too!
