Emily Blunt & Ruth Wilson Courted For Ms. Marvel In ‘The Avengers 2?’

Emily Blunt & Ruth Wilson

If there is one thing we shouldn’t be hearing about now, it’s the casting of vital roles in The Avengers 2. For one thing, it still way too early for anything like that to happen. But the Daily Mail, a source notoriously for concocting unsubstantiated rumors, reports that Marvel is courting Emily Blunt (Looper, The Wolfman, The Adjustment Bureau) and Ruth Wilson (Alice Morgan on BBC TV’s Luther). for the coveted role of Ms. Marvel – a character that is unconfirmed for the sequel.

It wouldn’t surprise me – or anyone else for that matter – that Joss Whedon would include a strong female character like Ms. Marvel in The Avengers 2, but until we get some hard evidence from let’s say, the people making The Avengers 2, we will just have to consider that this casting possibility is just a rumor.

For those who are not familiar with the character, Carol Danvers became Ms. Marvel after she and Captain Marvel (an alien entity known as Mar-vell) were caught in an explosion caused by a Kree Pysch-Magneton device. Mar-vell’s protective powers as well as the energy from the explosion caused Carol’s genetic structure to meld with Mar-vell’s. As a result, she gained superhuman powers. Through this transformation, Ms. Marvel was born.

Again, I believe it’s too early to be hearing any sort of casting news for The Avengers 2. Still Ms. Marvel would be a nice addition to The Avengers roster, but it’s so hard to believe that Whedon is actively looking for someone to fill that role right now. Also, these actresses, while very good, don’t really fit the bill for the character.

So what do you think about the possibility of Blunt or Wilson possibly playing Ms. Marvel in The Avengers 2?

  1. If this happens, I hope they include the update to the character that Kelly Sue DeConnick has been putting together, with Ms. Marvel becoming Capt. Marvel. The new Captain Marvel is easily the best update ever. Carol has been seriously reborn.

  2. Both of those gals (especially the 2nd one) look more like The Scarlet Witch character…also Avengers.

  3. Out of those two, Emily Blunt because a) she’s British b) I know she’s great, but most importantly, c) she was meant to be the Black Widow (in both Iron Man 2 and The Avengers) but filmed Gulliver’s Travels instead.

  4. Ruth Wilson is awesome, she’d be a kickass Ms. Marvel. Obviously all of you haven’t seen her in Luther. I’m sold, sign me up.
