‘The Sixth Gun’ Coming To TV Courtesy Of ‘LOST’ Showrunner Carlton Cuse

Fans of Oni Press’s comic The Sixth Gun got some good news today when it was announced that the comic would be getting made into a TV courtesy of LOST co-showrunner Carlton Cuse.

The show is being produced by Universal TV and Oni’s production company Closed on Monday Entertainment and will air on NBC (assuming the show is picked up). The Sixth Gun, written by Cullen Bunn with art by Brian Hurtt, follows the adventures of Becky Montcrief and Drake Sinclair as they travel the Wild West, searching for clues and trying to stop evil forces trying to harness the power of six pistols with supernatural powers.

Joining Cuse on adapting the comic will be Ryan Condal, who previously worked on an adaptation of Oni’s series Queen and Country.

This is not the first comic from Bunn and Hurtt to be adapted into a TV show, as their earlier comic, The Damned, is currently in development for Showtime. There are currently three volumes of The Sixth Gun available in trade paperback (with a fourth to be released soon). The series features a ton of action and excitement as well as some spectacular art from Hurtt.

It will be interesting to see how they adapt the more supernatural elements of the show, as the series features mummies, dead guys brought back as mud people, and an undead main villain. It’s not the easiest material to adapt, but there are plenty of rich characters and a setting that we don’t see much on TV. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and we do in fact see this show on TV at some point.
