Jamie Foxx In Negotiations To Play Electro In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Marc Webb was very close to not directing The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but he was able to work a few things out that would allow him to return to helm the sequel. With Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone set to reprise their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy respectively, Webb was looking for a couple of actors to fill new roles.

We previously reported that Shailene Woodley signed on for a small role as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and if that film was successful her role would be expanded in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Which would make sense given what happens to Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man lore. However in that same report it was rumored that Electro would be the villain in the sequel. That rumor is now a fact as Django Unchained star Jamie Foxx is attached to the role.

Variety was the first to confirm that Electro is indeed the villain of the sequel and that Foxx is in talks to play Max Dillion a.k.a. Electro. Interestingly enough, Sony Pictures has not confirmed anything, but a tweet from Foxx himself suggests that he got the role. Check out the tweet and judge for yourself.

A bit of a spoiler for those who haven’t seen The Amazing Spider-Man yet, it involves when we might have seen Electro, so if you don’t want to know, please stop reading.

During the mid-credits scene, a shadowy figure appeared in Dr. Curt Connors’ cell. He asks if Peter knew the truth about his parents to which Connors’ replied no. And with one lighting strike, the shadowy figure was gone. Many assumed that the shadowy figure was none other than Electro, but no one actually confirmed that it was the electrically charged villain.

In the comics, Max Dillion was involved in a freak electrical accident causing him to gain the ability to control and manipulate lighting with just a thought. Because of his electrical powers Dillion earned the moniker Electro.

Foxx is a very interesting and inspired choice to play the role of Electro. So far he is the only villain named in the report, so we’ll have to assume that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 only has one baddie. Which begs the question, how does this all work out if Stone is contractually obligated to appear in two Spider-Man films? Does this mean Electro kills Gwen Stacy?

What are your thoughts on Electro being the villain? Do you think Jamie Foxx is right for the role?

No one said there HAS to be one villain. One could be the primary protagonist (Green Goblin especially as Norman Osborn was mentioned a lot in ‘The Amazing Spiderman.’) and a secondary one (Electro).

One reason I think Gobbie will be in the sequel is because they kept stating how he was near-death in ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ so probably, he’ll be given a serum in a last ditch attempt to save him and that serum would have effects and change Norman Osborn into The Green Goblin.

  3. that’s why he said we should assume, the author leaves the door open for a possible second villain to be in the picture. duh

  4. This article, in soooo many ways, just gives me more reason to nostalgically remember Tobey and keep this new iteration from taking any of my dollars.

  5. Electro isn’t the best villain to be in a spiderman movie, in my opinion i would have kraven and chameleon since they’re half brothers and all, Kraven is famous animal hunter and Oscorp could have hired him and chameleon, for him to capture spiderman, but the first couple encounters he has, fails. Until Oscorp gives him a serum which makes his 5 senses and strength increase tenfold. And chameleon would get inside Peter and Gwen’s head by disguising himself as uncle Ben or Captain Stacey. The title could be The Amazing Spider-Man: The Hunt

  6. Ah, yes, the pitfall of the super-hero sequel. They up the star power of the villain and/or the number of villains. It almost guarantees its doom.

  7. I think they should make electro one of Norman’s created lackies to fight Spider-Man for most of the movie but make the climax Norman turning into the green goblin then killing Gwen at the end *shrug*
