‘Toy Story 3’ Michael Arndt Reportedly Penned Treatment For New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy
  |  @   |

The fact that Star Wars: Episode VII could be an original story opens the door for new possibilities to take new characters to far off worlds that we have yet to see. Many of the original characters would not appropriately fit the age of their respective characters even if they decided to base Episode VII on some of Lucas’s earlier works or the works that have already been created. But with no confirmation on where the movie could go, everything about the plot for the film is just pure speculation.

However the film may have found its writer to pen the screenplay. Disney is talking to Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt to pen the script for Episode VII. Seems like a nice fit, Arndt did write an excellent script for a great movie. Arndt also wrote the script for Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games.

Moments after the news was first reported by Vulture, Deadline reported that Arndt actually penned a treatment for the entire trilogy. According to the report, Arndt was brought in to write a new trilogy well before the sale was actually made.

Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford have all expressed interest in reprising their respective characters, but as far as we know, no offers have been made.

With a quality writer like Arndt possibly writing the sequel, it’s likely to attract the attentions of quality directors. Matthew Vaughn is among the frontrunners who are most likely to direct the film. Fans have called out for Brad Bird, J.J. Abrams, Joss Whedon, and Steven Spielberg to direct it, although the latter two seem unlikely to do so.

So let’s take this with a grain of salt until Disney makes everything official. As much as I would like to see Arndt write the script, the studio has stayed very quiet about the development of Episode VII since the deal was made.
