Universal Pictures has unveiled the first poster for Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion. In the film, Tom Cruise plays a drone repairman stationed on a future Earth which has since transformed into a desolate planet. When a pod carrying a mysterious woman crash lands near one of his work sites, the encounter causes Cruise’s character to question everything he knows about the world around him.

Looking at the poster for Oblivion we can see that Earth is clearly not what it once was. We don’t know how Earth got to this point, but it looks like a lot of things have changed as there are towering waterfalls that share the skies with skyscrapers that now act as relics.
The poster does a great job of highlighting Kosinski’s knack for bringing audiences a great visual piece, but can he do a better job of selling the story than he did with Tron: Legacy? As far as we know, the man in the poster is Cruise’s character. The film also stars Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Melissa Leo.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Oblivion opens in IMAX on April 12, and then expands for a wide release on April 19.
On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind. Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
