Watch Now: Superman Soars and Broods In The Latest ‘Man Of Steel’ Trailer

BAADASSSSS!   |

Man of Steel

The past week has brought about an onslaught of trailers for next year’s biggest potential blockbusters, and today we have the latest trailer for one of the question marks of the 2013 summer movie line-up: Man of Steel, the Zack Snyder-directed reboot of the Superman film series.

You can watch the trailer here below.

I like the fact that Snyder, with the support of writers David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan and producer Christopher Nolan, is going for a more grounded and introspective approach to Superman’s cinematic adventures highly reminiscent of the legendary DC Comics superhero’s late ’90s/early ’00s comic exploits. It is not necessarily dark and gritty. But this being a movie from the director of 300 and Watchmen there is naturally a heap of widescreen comic book action to satisfy the summer movie audiences.

The new trailer starts out looking similar to the teaser trailers that played online and before The Dark Knight Rises last July, but at the 90-second mark the action (a lot of which was in the preview that played to thrilled crowds at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con) kicks in big time.

We get many beats of Henry Cavill getting his last son of Krypton on, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Supes’ loving parents trying to help him cope with his fantastic abilities, and brief glimpses of co-stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon (as main heavy General Zod), Laurence Fishburne, and Christopher Meloni. It may all be over in less than three minutes, but my confidence in this movie has skyrocketed. I am now convinced that Man of Steel has great potential to revitalize the Superman franchise and erase the bad taste left by the past few lackluster sequels.

Of course I could be wrong, but one thing cannot be denied: THIS….looks like the Superman movie we have been waiting for since the last time the late Christopher Reeve donned the bright red cape and iconic “S” shield and flashed his million-dollar smile as he flew above Earth on his way to a new adventure.

Man of Steel opens in 2D and post-converted 3D on June 14, 2013.
