Kevin Smith Plans ‘Clerks 3’ For 2014; May Try To Make For $27,000
  |  @   |

As most of you may have heard by now, Kevin Smith had planned to end his directing career with the hockey movie Hit Somebody. Then we found out that Hit Somebody would now become a miniseries, and that Clerks III would fittingly become his final directorial effort.

Now Smith has added to that news, sharing that he hopes to have the trilogy-maker ready for a 2014 release—for the 20th anniversary of the release of his first directorial effort, Clerks, back in 1994—and that he may even be willing to make the third film for around the same price as the original…a whopping $27,000.

In an appearance on Good Day LA, Smith shared the news that he hopes to have Clerks III out for 2014. The news should come as no surprise as Smith has said that he wanted a Clerks title for when he and his friends were in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.

When it was suggested that he make the movie for the same price as the original, $27,000, Smith says he would love to try and do that if everyone would be willing to make the movie and get paid based on whatever it makes…which is all but guaranteed to be much more than the original’s $3.1 million. That said, it’s incredibly unlikely that they’ll make the movie for so little. Clerks II jumped up to a $5 million budget and brought back $24.1 million, so that would be a lot more likely.

It’s also hard to believe that Clerks III will be Kevin Smith’s last movie ever, even though it would be a fitting way to end that chapter in his life and move on to new things. He may have plenty of things to do, but he’s a filmmaker at heart, and you’d have to think that “itch” will hit him again eventually, whether it be in two years or twenty.

What do you think about Smith’s plan to end things with Clerks III in 2014? Can he pull it off for $27,000?
